Handmade rugs are very durable, but some maintenance is required. The maintenance and care may vary per rug. Some useful tips to remember:
-
The shedding of natural fibers of a newly-made rug is normal. We do try to reduce this at our warehouse before delivery. Regular vacuuming of rugs can reduce shedding.
-
Vacuuming the rug at least once a week is advised. Vacuuming must be done in the direction of the pile, the side that does not rise when you run your hand against it.
-
Clip any loose ends with scissors, and do not pull.
-
For spills, rinse the area with club soda and blot it with a clean white cloth.
-
Professional rug cleaning is required every few years; two is recommended, depending on foot traffic. Some do not clean rugs for a decade; some clean them every year. If you take care of your rug, it can last in good condition for decades.
-
Do not leave your rug in the attic or basement, as these rugs are made of all-natural materials and can attract pests.
-
Rainwater is acidic in its PH level. Any rug that gets soaked in rainwater needs to be professionally cleaned immediately
